How to back your Women's Euros team on a budget

Published on Mon 1st July 2024

We all love a party and what better excuse than cheering on the Lionesses and the Cymru Dragons in the UEFA Women’s Euros 2025? It’s the perfect way to get your dose of football this summer and celebrate in the sunshine. Here’s how to do it on a budget.

The countdown is on. The Women’s UEFA Euro 2025 competition kicks off on Wednesday 2nd July in Switzerland. Will Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses bring it home again, or will the Cymru Dragons smash it as they step out in their first major tournament? Only time will tell. The good news is that, with only an hour’s time difference this year, the favourable kick-off times look likely to encourage more of us to host BBQs, match parties, or head to our local bars, pubs, and restaurants to watch more matches than we could during the Women’s World Cup held in Australia. This means the Women’s UEFA Euros 2025 is lining up to give a huge boost to the UK economy – an estimated £851.6m from kick-off to the final. According to VoucherCodes UEFA 2025 Spending Report, over half a billion pounds (£593.4m) is set to be spent in supermarkets and other retail stores for the Euros 2025, and £258.3m will be spent at hospitality venues across the UK.

Forecast total spend, by category stage

Alongside this, £57.6m is set to be spent on sportswear, and £43.7m on new TVs and speakers.

£22.1 million looks to be spent on decorations, with 2.2 million people splurging on items such as English and Welsh flags, table decorations, and car accessories. And, of course, £29.3m is likely to go on merchandise as Brits get with the team spirit.

With all of that in mind, we show you how to find the best buys for Euro 2025, from food to flags, team shirts, and televisions.

Best big TV buys:

Nothing says buy-a-new-TV like a huge sports event, but constitutes a good buy aside from price? Here's what to look out for if you're one of the many looking for a new TV.

  • Picture quality is key, with aspects including 4K (or 8K) resolution for sharpness, HDR (High Dynamic Range) for contrast and richer colours, and high refresh rates (120Hz or more) for smooth motion, which is vital for fast-paced content and gaming.
  • Smart features: Look for a TV with a user-friendly smart platform that offers access to your preferred streaming services and apps. However, live coverage of the Women's Euro 2025 on TV in the UK will be shared between BBC and ITV, with every match shown live between them including shared live coverage of the Women's Euro 2025 final on TV.
  • Sound quality: Look for clear, crisp voices that are easy to understand, and the sound should feel spacious, not "trapped or tinny." Lastly, the volume should be consistent, with no sudden increases or decreases. While external soundbars can improve audio, TVs should always have decent built-in speakers or support for advanced audio formats like Dolby Atmos for an immersive sound experience.
  • Get a good warranty. Some stores offer a 5-year warranty as standard, but others may try to upsell you with extended guarantees ranging from 1 to 5 years, which can increase the price. Do you need the extra warranty? What you need to know is that most TVs come with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty (covering defects in materials) and a limited panel warranty (sometimes 2–5 years for OLED, LG, and Samsung premium models). More expensive TVs may need the extra warranty, but not TVs under £500. Plus, UK Consumer Law – retailers must fix faults within 6 years (if the TV isn't "fit for purpose"), though proving this can be tricky.

Best TV deals at the moment: Argos

If you’re opting for a 50-inch-plus screen, then Which? Say you can’t go wrong with Samsung’s 55” Neo QLED 4K Smart AI TV £649.

If that doesn’t grab you, then Samsung are offering up to £500 off with old TV recycling with selected 2025 OLED AI TV orders.

Best BBQ food and drink buys:

A BBQ is a great budget-friendly way to gather together for some good food, good fun, and (hopefully!) lots of laughs. Hosting a gathering at home will be one of the most popular ways to celebrate the Women’s Euros, with £99.3m being spent on food, as 3.1m fans stock up to fuel celebrations.

And what’s a BBQ without some decorations? £22.1m is set to be spent on decorations, with 2.2m people splurging on items such as England flags, table decorations and car accessories. For budget-friendly bargains, look:

How to keep your BBQ budget-friendly is simple:
  • Use supermarket loyalty cards. The BEST way to get budget deals. If you haven’t already, sign up for Tesco Clubcard or Nectar to earn points and get exclusive discounts on BBQ essentials.
  • Shop the deals: Supermarkets know that BBQs depend on good weather and seasonal events like the Euros, so right now there are deals aplenty on BBQ-friendly meats, drinks and snacks.
  • Only buy what people eat: Sausages, burgers, buns, salad and something for vegetarians. Desserts usually get wasted, as do fancy expensive items like speciality items, prawns, and pulled pork.
  • Don’t be tempted by ‘luxury’ and ‘special’ labels. At BBQs, no one can tell fancy Wagyu burgers from your run-of-the-mill burgers or top-end potato salad from ordinary potato salad, so don’t waste your money.

Best going out places

With matches taking place in the evenings and on weekends, hospitality spending for this year’s Euros is expected to be high. 73% of all Women’s Euros watchers are planning to take in at least one game from their local boozer - that’s 3.7m people. Bars will also be a destination of choice for fans, with 60% or 3 million people watching at least one game from there.

As a result, over the tournament, £259.3m is set to be spent at pubs, bars, restaurants, and other hospitality venues by 5.9 million fans. Breaking this down further, £158.9m is forecast to be spent on drinks, with 4.7 million people buying pints, wine, and other beverages.

Even better news is pubs will be allowed to stay open until 1 am if England or Wales reach the semi-finals or final of the UEFA Women’s European Championships. The semi-finals take place on July 22 and July 23, while the final kicks off on July 27.

Best going out deals at the moment:

Wetherspoons pubs and other pubs within the Greene King group are showing the UEFA Women's Euro 2025, with specific fixtures advertised at various locations. Look for deals on food and of course great prices on their drinks.

Although they’ll be less popular than pubs, bars and clubs (28%), restaurants (30%), social clubs (31%) and sports clubs (32%) will also see fans flock through their doors to watch the Women’s Euros tournament. So do check out the current deals on VoucherCodes to ensure you’re covered wherever you head.
