It's finally starting to feel like spring - and it's the perfect time to refresh your home interiors.
The shops are already full of gorgeous spring homeware and I've put together a list of some of my favourite home decor suggestions, (including dupes of designer pieces that won't break the bank)!
I've also got some top tips to help you get your home ready for the new season:
Declutter your space
Spring is the season of new beginnings, so I recommend having a good clear out before you do anything else.
Interior therapist Suzanne Roynon believes that "if you imagine your dream home it’s unlikely to have piles of stuff lying around, so commit to treating your current home as if you were already living in the home of your dreams."
It can be hard to let things go, but clutter can have a negative impact on how your home looks and feels, and even impact your overall mood and wellbeing. So, ask yourself, do you need it? How it will serve you in the future? Or in the famous words of decluttering expert Marie Kondo, "does it spark joy?" Carefully considering each item will make it easier to work out what to keep and let go.
Then, make three piles: keep, sell and donate.
Getting rid of those unwanted items can be quite cathartic! And you'll be left with more space for the things you love. You could even earn some extra cash in the process (check out my Vinted, Depop or Facebook Marketplace guides to learn how).
Consider lighting
Spring heralds the arrival of brighter days ahead and you want to reflect this throughout your home. There's nothing more lovely than natural light shining through, but alas, you can't always rely on the sun shining! So, it's a good idea to reevaluate your lighting choices.
According to Marlena Kaminska, a designer at Value Lights "with the increase in natural light during spring, replace overhead lighting with smaller, more subtle options. Layer up lighting using table and floor lamps to spread a bright, ambient glow throughout your home."
She also advises to "switch out your dark, heavy lamp shades for lighter fixtures. Rattan and wicker pendants work particularly well for inviting in a breezy and fresh feel to your home."
Embrace mood boosting colours
I also recommend introducing some spring colours into your home. It's time to leave behind those dark and gloomy winter days!
Shiza Shahid, co-founder of Our Place, champions an energising colour palette: "I gravitate towards greens, pinks, and blues in spring, colours that evoke freshness, spring, and vibrancy!"
According to Frenchic, yellow is another great interior colour which oozes positivity and cheerful, happy vibes, reflecting the 'glow of the sun to the daffodils in spring.' We don't mean to be biased, but yellow is a particular favourite colour of ours here at VoucherCodes!
If you prefer a neutral colour scheme, opt for lighter tones and natural textures to bring the outside in.
I personally think green is a perfect medium between 'colour' and 'neutral'. A pop of green works well to breathe new life into a neutral home without losing the minimal and clean aesthetic.
There's really no right or wrong here. Marie Kondo is still ringing in our ears - it's all about choosing the colours that spark joy.
Introduce flowers and plants
"Flowers have the power to bring so much joy to a space" according to designer, Zeena Shah. "They also provide a focal point – I think of them as art."
You don't need to blow the budget on a big bouquet, as many of spring's prettiest blooms are available in supermarkets for less than £5. We're thinking colourful tulips and delightful daffodils!
House plants are another great way to freshen up your space, and they can last a lot longer than flowers. Aloe Vera is a fab choice for the spring and summer months, as it thrives in direct sunlight and requires minimal care. Hibiscus is another great choice - especially if you prefer a plant with pretty pops of colour.
Alternatively, you could opt for a faux arrangement. While you won't get that beautiful fresh fragrance, they'll of course last much longer and require no effort, so it depends on what works best for you.
My high street top picks
1. George at ASDA:
My jaw hit the FLOOR when I saw George at ASDA's latest homeware collection. It's rapidly becoming one of my favourite places to shop for cheap home decor and their spring edit might be my favourite yet.
The Pink Scalloped Side Table is an absolute steal at £25 and I've spotted similar designs online for upwards of £100. I love scalloped decor and I think it's perfect for bringing a refreshing, cheery feel to your home for spring.
The Natural Wave Lamp is absolutely going in my basket. Again, I've seen similar online for up to £40 so at £12, it would be rude not to.
I'm loving the soft furnishings, dinnerware and the latest At Home with Stacy Solomon collection too.
2. Primark:
When I'm looking for affordable and on-trend homewares, Primark never lets me down, and I'm loving the spring pieces that have started to arrive.
I especially love the embossed strawberry collection including this beautiful ceramic plate for just £5! It's giving designer dupe.
Primark is my go-to for home fragrance and this Ceramic Lidded Reed Diffuser (£6) is just gorgeous, while the Green Leaves and Fig fragrance is perfect for spring. I actually snapped up the Ceramic Pattern Candle in-store recently (for just £5!), styled in my home below.
3. Matalan:
Matalan's spring homeware collection embraces a soft pastel colour palette, gentle patterns, rattan, scallops and curves.
My favourite piece is the Meadow Table Runner (£12) which is perfect to brighten up your dining room. I love the dreamy colour combination and subtle floral print.
Wall art is an easy and affordable way to freshen up your space and the Spring Floral Wall Art will bring a calming, botanical charm to any room. It's priced at £16, which I think is great value for money, but you could save extra when you shop with our Matalan discount codes!
4. Marks & Spencer:
You might be surprised to see Marks & Spencer in my affordable homeware list, but their own brand M&S Collection is actually super affordable and features so many stunning, high quality pieces!
It's impossible to pick a favourite but the Paper Daisy Table Lamp has really caught my eye. I think it's a unique, statement piece, perfect for spring, and reasonably priced at £20.
I'm a believer that you can never have too many vases and you won't be short of choice at Marks & Spencer! There are lots of pastel coloured spring vases and plant pots which are ideal for displaying floral arrangements or styling alone for a more minimal aesthetic.
5. Dunelm:
I've decided to refresh my downstairs toilet in time for spring and as it's a small space, I wanted to brighten it up with a statement mirror. I had my eye on a pond mirror but couldn't justify the £189 price tag, so you can imagine how quickly I snapped up this dupe from Dunelm for just £50! It's my favourite find of the year so far.
I absolutely love this Artificial Gypsophila Garland (£12) too. It's the perfect way to bring the outside in this season and a low maintenance alternative to a real garland.
If bold colours and florals are your thing, Dunelm is the place to shop right now. Just remember to browse our Dunelm discount codes first!
